The Fastest Way to Build Unbreakable Discipline..
Master micro-disciplines & become unstoppable..
You don’t just wake up one day as a disciplined individual who meditates for an hour daily, never eats dessert, and goes to the gym twice a day.
Being a disciplined human is a skill, and the fastest way to gain it is with simple, repeatable micro-disciplines.
Fastest way to macro-discipline: Nail micro-disciplines.
Fastest way to micro-discipline: Complete the habit cycle regularly.
The Habit Cycle: Trigger → Action → Reward.
To understand the habit cycle, and build momentum, we need to rinse and repeat it, starting with a simple discipline.
"Sometimes you have to put a stick on the ground, jump over it, and say ‘hooray.’" - Andrew Huberman.
Elements of a simple discipline:
A primal trigger: one we come across without trying (eat, sleep, sex, shelter, socialise).
Low resource requirement (time, money, equipment, effort).
Instant reward (and a lifelong one).
This is where flossing comes in:
Flossing clearly has its own benefits, but right now we're focusing more on its role in habit formation.
Flossing after eating (primal trigger✓) takes 2 minutes and requires a few tiny, cheap tools you can carry everywhere (low resource requirement✓) for your teeth to feel clean and keep you away from the dentist (reward✓).
But here comes the cool part..
Flossing 3 times a day allows us to complete 21 positive habit cycles in a week.
Nail this for a week, and in the realm of flossing, you’re now a disciplined individual.
Outcome:
You're building the habit of taking a few minutes daily for your future self, training the muscle of ‘sacrificing short-term comfort for long-term benefits.’
You’re now the person who said they’d do something and did..
Maybe tomorrow you’ll be the person who said they’d go to the gym and did.
Come Saturday night, maybe you’ll be the person who said they’d stay sober and did..
And when it gets to the end of the day and you’re yet to meditate, stretch, or read, that muscle might be strong enough to push you to put 5 minutes aside and complete that future-benefiting habit.
Go for the easy wins, build the muscle of sacrifice, and become superhuman.

Henry
